The Women’s Fund of Central Ohio

Challenge

In 2015, I managed a database conversion from Microsoft Access to a Blackbaud product that specializes in nonprofit CRMs. As with many nonprofits running on tight budgets, data management struggled to be a priority. This created challenges in the definition of new fields and mapping existing data points.

Overview

In the nonprofit world, the organization’s donor database is where the gold lies. It helps power the organization to effectively engage with their donors. Without a comprehensive CRM strategy, the potential for leaving important insights out of a fundraising plan (and leaving money on the table) is a huge risk.

After years of building a strong and dynamic organization, The Women’s Fund of Central Ohio was due for a major systems upgrade to super charge the new strategic direction.

What I did

Product Management

  • Built a deep understanding of pain points, and brought clarity to the issues that led to the exploration of a new CRM tool

  • Created CRM strategy on how to leverage the system across the organization

Business Analyst

  • Defined data requirements

  • Defined existing data fields

  • Mapped data from old system to new

  • Developed new data manual

Outcome

  • The feedback from our Chief Operating Office was “This was the most pleasant database conversion I’ve ever been a part of”. Possibly one of my most treasured compliments.

  • With advanced segmentation capabilities, our communications were deeply personalized with relatively low effort. This resulted in expanding the operational fundraising capacity by nearly 250%.
